ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ESTABLISHED IN MAINLAND CHINA

TKU Alumni Association in Mainland China was inaugurated in Shanghai on Nov. 29th. 28 alumni who reside there joined TKU’s President Chang Horng-jinh, Vice President for Administrate Affairs, Flora C. I. Chang and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Chao-kang Feng, for the founding ceremony, during which President Chang introduced the recent academic accomplishments of TKU. After that, he urged those alumni to unite together with all their resources available in helping one another in terms of their careers and welfare.

The founding ceremony was held at the Bao Lai Na Restaurant in the Shu-hui District. During the ceremony, Rao Wen-hsiong, a second year student of In-Service Master Program in International Business at TKU was elected as the President of the Association. He runs Yu Men Food Corporation in China and travels back to Tamkang for classes every two weeks. His untiring commitment to his work and studies by shuttling between Taiwan and China is greatly admired by all those who know him. At the same time, two Vice Presidents and several administrators were elected. The former include Liu Shan-chi, a graduate of Department of Computer Science (which is known as Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering today), and Chen Chen-wen, a graduate of Department of Industrial Economics. Mr. Liu is the Chief Manager of Icon Technology Corporation whereas Mr. Chen is the Chief Manager of Bao Lai Na Restaurant. All alumni used this opportunity to get acquainted with one another, and exchanged contact details. Some of them even agreed upon preliminary alliances. Finally, Mr. Rau, the President, vowed to set up a webpage by the help of other alumni. This webpage will serve as point of contact, and should benefit everyone. There will also be two annual meetings to address issues that concern all members.

The Alumni Association in Mainland China was organized and inaugurated by TKU’s Alumni Services and Resources Development (ASRD). Vice Director, Lu Ching-tang of ASRD, spent years of coordinating and contacting those 28 founding members, so that this association could finally be formed. The founding ceremony had been originally planned in March this year, but was postponed to November due to SARS. At the close of the meeting, Mr. Lu reminded everyone that the official address of the Association is registered at Room 521, Taipei Campus, even though its contact address is still in China with Mr. Rau’s Yu-men Corp. This is a result of various legal constrains China places on the establishment of organizations. Those who are interested in becoming a member, please contact its Taipei number on (02) 23515123.
