CROSS-STRAIT NATURAL AND CULTURAL EXPLORATION OF FAMOUS TOURING SPOTS, TKU EXCHANGES FRIENDSHIP WITH

A teacher-and-student visiting team, composed of 9 members and led by Director of the Office of International Exchange Lily Hui-mei Chen, was invited to a “Cross-strait College Students’ Natural and Cultural-geographic Exploration” (hosted by Nanjing University) where they met students and teachers from Nanjing and Fudan Universities. The team returned last Friday (November 21), ending the eight-day visit.

The activity was hosted by Naijing University, and more than forty students and teachers from Tamkang, National Taiwan, Central, Chengkung and Tonghai Universities were invited. During these eight days, the team visited several famous touring spots like the campus of Nanjing University, Chung-shan-ling, Chuocheng Park in Soochow, Pudong Area in Shanghai, and the campus of Fudan University, and they met local teachers and students. Director of the Office of International Exchange Lily Hui-mei Chen indicated that this is the first time she led a student team for a visit abroad; she was highly satisfied with the performance of Tamkang’s students during the visit, which was also praised by other universities.

Team members Hsin-hung Li (Senior, Department of Electrical Engineering) and Ming-wei Wu (Graduate Institute of Architecture) together indicated, “Studying on paper is not as practical as walking thousands of miles of roads. If they could have enjoyed this kind of visit while studying Chinese geography and history years ago, those classes would have been much more interesting.” Only by seeing things in person can one understand the ancients' wisdom. Hsing-yu Huang (first year, Graduate Institute of English) indicated that this was her first visit to China, and, thanks to Nanjing University’s arrangement, she was very happy to witness many things taught in textbooks in person and make many new friends. Hsiao-jing Li (doctoral student from the Graduate Institute of English) and Shu-hui Chen (from the Graduate Institute of European Studies) indicated that students in China commonly performed excellently and worked very hard, which can be seen in the students from Nanjing University, and that impresses them a lot.
