You just walked into a clean, comfortable classroom, but at the moment of leaving, you may find it has turned into a messy hell. In response to students’ opinions about classrooms’ conditions, Office of Student Affairs sent an e-mail to all the first and second-level of teaching units and staff days ago, emphasizing the importance of life education and, meanwhile, wishing teachers to supervise students’ maintenance of cleanliness in classrooms.

Classrooms are usually in excellent condition after the cleaning in the morning but become terribly dirty in the afternoon. A student worker, who helps clean Main Engineering Building every morning, exasperatedly protested, “If students always put the garbage they produced in the right places, I would really appreciate their kind cooperation.” Hsu-an Lin from the Department of German indicated that in the Main Engineering Building and Liberal Arts Building students don’t take away the litter after they finished eating, and they uncontrollably throw them almost everywhere, which turns classrooms into a horrible dumping ground after a few classes. Senior student Sheng-min Wen from Department of Electrical Engineering compared such a chaotic condition to the aftermath of a riot. Some students complained that desks were filled with dirty scrawling, and, sometimes, drinks were spilled all over. As the Office of Students Affair indicated, if students violate the fifth article of Tamkang’s -- “Uses of electrical apparatuses, gas and cooking are strictly prohibited. Except drinking water, students are not allowed to eat snacks and meals and litter garbage in classrooms”--they will receive warning punishments according to the tenth item in the seventh article of Regulations of Students’ Reward and Punishment “violating Classroom Regulations, Article Two to Five.”

Chief of Guidance Section Yen-yu Kao wished that teachers would urge students to maintain good conditions in the classrooms, and emphasized that students should keep a sense of public morality to strictly follow Classroom Regulations and keep the cleanliness of classrooms for other students’ to use.
