IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME, IT’S PARTY TIME

This year’s Christmas falls on a weekend so for a lot of students this is a perfect ‘excuse’ of having parties and endless fun. On 24th, the Christmas Eve, there will be a disco party featuring a beauty pageant at the Student Activity Center between 6 p.m. and midnight. It is organized by the six departmental clubs that include Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chinese, Information, German and Spanish, who will begin the party with a pageant where the most beautiful male and female students of TKU will be judged and crowned. There will be a DJ playing the hippest music afterwards. So, whoever is in for 7 hours of marathon party time, can get the ticket with NT$ 150 at entrances of the Business Administration Building as well as the Main Engineering Building.

Those who are not into disco, can chose a party with a slower pace. Several Christian clubs have been hosting parties inviting everyone to share how they celebrate Christmas. There was a play of Jesus birth with shepherds and three kings put on by the Tamkang Campus Fellowship Club on last Tuesday, December 14. The Tamkang Christian Psalms Club invited a French horn musician, Sun Tzu-horng and a pianist, Lee Jen-tze to perform famous Christmas melodies at 7 p.m. at the Carrier Chang Music Hall on the 22nd.

Other parties include the one hosted by the College of Technology (CT) based in Taipei Campus and some other organized by various student bodies. CT set up a 3.5 inches tall Christmas tree in the courtyard of the campus and invited students to write cards with their wishes to hang on the tree. They will have students dressing up as Santa on Christmas Eve to give away delicious candies, whereas String-instrument Playing Social Club will share their joy with He-Hsin Hospital on the Holy Night.

With so many parties to go to, what make-up to wear can be a gut-wrenching experience. No need to despair if you had gone to the presentation on Christmas make-over organized by the Make-up Club. The vice chair of the club, Huang shih-hsuan, a sophomore of the Japanese Department, and Su Hsin-yi, a freshman of the Spanish Department were the models Hsieh Ling-jung, a junior of the English Department and the former chair of the club, could used her skill hands to create magic looks on them instantly.

Hsieh used two hues of colors—the blue and the purple—to illustrate contrasting looks. The blue make-up showed distanced, reserved and sophisticated look while the purple one implies a sweet but mysterious lure. She explained that the creation of these looks was not complicated at all; it mainly depended on the colors of the eye shadow and lipstick. She encouraged all the girls in the audience not to shy away from puting on colors for such a special occasion. As the lighting tended to be dark at parties, she stressed the importance of wearing bright colors and shiny make-up. Huang, the vice chair added that the color gold and purple would be quite suitable as they are the color for this holiday season. Well, what are you waiting for? Dress up and make up to paint the town red! (~Ying-hsueh Hu)
