THE ORCHID EXHIBITION WAS HELD AT THE EXHIBITION HALL OF THE BUSINESS MANAGEMENT BUILDING

“There are only ten tubs of orchid left now!” said one of the crew of the Orchid Exhibition happily. It is the second day of the exhibition, held at the exhibition hall of Business Management Building. The orchids for sale, originally occupying the two sides at the front gate, are almost sold out, with only several tubs left. It shows that the Orchid Exhibition, which has taken place for twenty years or more, has many loyal supporters already.

This year, the Orchid Exhibition was held grandly on November sixth, and its main theme was scenes of the four seasons. The sponsor put various kinds of orchids into the scenes of the different seasons, showing orchids not only as gorgeous tropical plants. The scout placed bloomy and colorful orchids into the spring view, pictured playfully placed piles to show the feeling of summer, arranged several orchids in front of the wild land to present the loneliness of autumn, and made a fake fire beside the flowers to offer a warm winter. All these displayed the beauty of nature and the praise to life.

There are 281 tubs of orchids in the Orchid Exhibition this year, and they are not only for display, but also for competition. Among them all, the Cattleya Alliance is most favored by the judges because it not only has bigger and colorful flowers but also the most perfect texture. It won many big prizes including the Chairman Prize and President Prize. The first four prizewinners are Hsu Yung-chuan, who wins the Chairman Prize; Chien Kuo-fu, the President Prize; NTU Orchid Garden won the Prize of Vice President for Academic Affairs with its Cirrhopetalum; Wu Ching-yuan, the Prize of Vice President for Administrative Affairs with his Paphiopedilum. The exhibition hall is decorated with collage works and Chinese flower-and-bird paintings made by the members of Faculty and Staff Welfare Committee; so the visitors can see the staff’s achievement in art while appreciating the orchids. The Orchid Exhibition will be closed at three o’clock this afternoon. If you have any interest in it, do not miss the yearly grand party!
