Leading Sustainable and Cultivated Digital Learning to New Heights: Tamkang University Wins 6 Major Awards, Including the MOE Best Implementation Team Award

The Office of Information Services at Tamkang University has made significant advancements in the field of digital learning, leading the "Alliance for Empowering Smart Future – Sustainable and Cultivated Digital Learning" to remarkable achievements. From December 13 to 14, the university participated in the "2024 ELOE e-Learning International Conference & Open Education Forum," organized by the National Taichung University of Science and Technology under the guidance of the Ministry of Education (MOE). Tamkang submitted 10 papers and 7 teaching cases, winning 6 major awards: the "Popular Course Award," "Best Paper Award," "Best Implementation Team Award," "Outstanding Leadership Award," "SIG Annual Teaching Case Award," and "Outstanding Administration Award."

Director of the Center for Distance Education Development, Assoc. Prof. Chih-Hung Chung stated that the conference showcased the key outcomes of the second phase of the "University Alliance Project for Deepening Digital Learning and Innovation," spearheaded by the Department of Information and Technology Education under MOE. Tamkang demonstrated exceptional results in digital learning innovation, particularly through its participation in the "Breaking Credit Recognition Barriers" themed exhibition. The university showcased breakthroughs in cross-university credit recognition and course sharing, promoting the optimization of digital education resources. This effort received high praise from Pao-Li Chang, Section Chief of the Department of Information and Technology Education.

The "Alliance for Empowering Smart Future – Sustainable and Cultivated Digital Learning," led by Tamkang University with President Huan-Chao Keh as the principal investigator, includes Tatung University, Taipei University of Marine Technology (TUMT), Aletheia University, and Shih Chien University. After 3 years of effort, the alliance has achieved continuous growth in technology integration, course registrations, and user engagement, enabling faculty and students from member universities to experience digital learning and grow together. Additionally, other exhibition areas featured 4 major alliances from 22 universities, which were also evaluated together.

The "Alliance for Empowering Smart Future – Sustainable and Cultivated Digital Learning," led by Tamkang University, received the "Best Implementation Team Award." Project Assistant Sheng-Fen Chan from the Center for Distance Education Development won the "Outstanding Administration Award," and Research Assistant Yu-Hsuan Hsu was awarded the "Excellence in Administration Award." Additionally, Yi-Fang Hsieh, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Development at TUMT, received the "Outstanding Leadership Award," highlighting the hard work and dedication of administrative staff behind the successful execution of the alliance’s projects. TUMT’s "Marine Resource Utilization Case Study" also won the "SIG Annual Teaching Case Award."

The "Popular Course Award" was awarded to Tamkang University's "AI Literacy and Thinking" course and TUMT’s "Sustainable Utilization of Marine Resources." The "Best Paper Award" was presented to Dr. Chih-Hung Chung, associate professor and director of the Center for Distance Education Development, for his paper, "A Gamified Teaching Experiment to Enhance Online Learning Effectiveness and Reduce Social Anxiety." Another notable paper, "Enhancing Learning Outcomes in Ship Electrical Machinery Courses Using MOOCs," by professors Chung-Hsin Huang, Chia-Yu Lin, and Bo-Kai Wang from TUMT, received an honorable mention.

Chung emphasized that the alliance's exceptional performance at the conference underscores the leading role of Tamkang University and its partners in digital education innovation. By centering on digital innovation, the alliance aims to drive sustainable educational development. Tamkang remains committed to achieving the vision of "education without boundaries and limitless learning," setting a new benchmark for digital learning models in Taiwan.
