4 Indonesian overseas students from Tamkang University were attacked by individuals off-campus in front of an apartment complex, the Chocolate Garden (巧克力花園), on the evening of April 18. After being handled by the police, Tamkang University’s offices including the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs, Office of Military Education and Training, and Office of Student Affairs, actively showed concern for the affected students and assisted with follow-up matters. The students' mental states are currently stable, and the injured students are gradually recovering. On April 23, counselors from the Counseling Center of the Student Affairs Office conducted group counseling sessions, which proceeded smoothly. Tamkang University will continue coordinating with student advisors from the departments and relevant units to monitor the students' academic and living conditions and provide assistance as needed.
Director of the Military Education and Training Office and Head of the Guidance Section in the Student Affairs Office, Colonel Jin-Yan Lai, added that Tamkang University arranges personal safety courses for all first-year students to strengthen their awareness of personal safety and teach them self-defense skills, hoping that students can respond appropriately to situations to safeguard their safety. Additionally, reminders will be sent to all students, and instructors will be asked to reinforce these messages during assemblies or classes, advising students to avoid making too much noise in public places and to remain vigilant of their surroundings. In emergencies, students should stay calm and seek assistance through the "TKU i Life" app's emergency button to contact the duty center, or they can call 110 or the 24-hour campus security hotline of the Military Training Office at 02-26222173 for assistance.
