TKU FOUNDER EXHORTS FACUALTY AND STUDENTS TO REDOUBLE EFFORTS TO BUILD UP UNIVERSITY REPUTATION

“How to build up the university’s reputation relies upon the efforts of the faculty members and students!” Tamkang University (TKU) Founder Dr. Clement C. P. Chang said. He exhorted all the faculty and staff members to make a new breakthrough in the coming year of sheep while delivered his address at the yearend gathering party for faculty and staff members held on Tamsui Campus on Jan. 24, 2003.

Dr. Chang also made three wishes to welcome the coming year of sheep. The first wish is to enlist outstanding people to join TKU faculty so as to upgrade publicity of TKU. The second wish is about resources. TKU should try to strive for the resources from the society and alumni to upgrade the development of teaching, research and service in TKU. The third wish is the school reputation. All faculty members and students should redouble their efforts to build up a good reputation of TKU.

Chang encouraged every teaching and administrative unit to raise fund from outside the campus and all the funds raised should only be used by the specific unit which raises the funds on specific or given purpose, such as subsidizing teachers to go abroad for academic meetings or students to pursue their advanced studies abroad in order to feedback each department. The school authorities have also adopted an incentive measure, Chang said, that if NT$10 million is raised, extra NT$2 million will be added by the school authorities to benefit more teachers and students.

One more thing worth mentioning in the party is that the gift money offered by the Board of Trustees (BOT) have not shrunk but increased while facing the economic stagnation. The BOT offers NT$230,000 as fund for lot-drawing game. All deans and directors of the first level units offered a total of 89 awards/gifts for the activity. The Alumni Association of Department of Chemical Engineering has also offered NT$10,000 as gift money for lot-drawing game on the scene.

In addition, some 40 retired faculty and staff members were also invited to take part in the gathering by TKU Founder Dr. Clement C.P. Chang. Founder Chang and TKU President Chang Horng-jinh exchanged greetings and gave best regards to the invited retired personnel, thanking them for their devotion to TKU.
