FOREIGN LANGUAGE WEEK INVITES YOU TO THE ENCHANTING WORLD OF LANGUAGES

It is the time to feel the enchanting power of different languages! From 5/10 (Monday) to 5/14 (Friday), College of Foreign Languages and Literature will held Foreign Language Week, co-sponsored by the Departments of French, English, German, Japanese, Spanish and Russian. During this week, they will use drama, dance, music, delicious food, and cultural heritages to construct an exotic campus.

The opening ceremony is held at Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center at 12:00, May 10th, and six chairs from the College of Foreign Languages and Literature are invited to host the opening dancing performance. People can enjoy the sight of Japanese fan dancing, American hip-hop, French Palace Dance and Russian folkdance with their exotic costumes.

There are many activities during the Foreign Language Week. Cultural heritages from different countries are to be displayed at the exhibition hall of the Business Management Building from Monday to Thursday. At the same time, many foreign publishers will display books in different languages, and visitors can purchase what they are interested in. In order to celebrate the 40th anniversary, Dept. of German will give a concert at Carrie Chang Music Hall at 18:30, May 11th, and invite many alumni to join the party. The concert will be performed by Prof. Hsieh Hsin-jung, Prof. Lin Yi-hui, and TKU student Sung Cheng-en, and a cute kid Lu Yi-hisn. They will perform instrumental and vocal works by greatest musicians like Schubert, Chopin, and Debussy. Dept. of Japanese and Dept. of Russian will put up a makeshift outdoors cinema at the University Commons on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Two famous movies Ju-On-The Grudges 2 and Doctor Zhivago will be played and all the members of TKU are sincerely welcomed.

The enchanting power of Foreign Language Week will prevail on the Poster Street, too. Dept. of English and Dept. of Japanese will hold Music Live Shows at noon from Tuesday to Thursday. Different bands will perform American, European, or Japanese classics and pop songs, and all the members of the bands including drummers, guitarists, and vocals will show their energy and passion to affect the listeners. A food festival also stages on the Poster Street. People can find many traditional food or snacks here like Japanese Tacoyaki, German beer, French bread, and American hotdog. Traveling information of different countries is offered as well.

The Night of Foreign Languages is the climax of the activities. It will be held at Student Activity Center at seven o’clock on Friday night. Students of six departments will perform six short plays of each country. After the plays, they will teach audience how to express the love in different languages through a story of six girls from different countries pursuing the same boy. In addition, the Japanese students from our sister school Reitaku University will bring us a traditional Japanese performance, drawing a perfect end to Foreign Language Week.
