The 21st Nation-Wide College Kendo Contest, sponsored by Kendo Club of Tamkang University, had taken place at TKU Student Activity Center on December 5, 2004. With imposing vigor, TKU kendo team was the best winner of the contest, winning six cups out of twelve in total. In the female division, TKU kendo team got the championships of both scoring-contest and passing-contest; as for the male division, the runner-up of passing-contest and the third place of scoring-contest.
In the female division, six teams participated the contest, and TKU kendo team won an overwhelming victory. They beat the teams from four other schools including National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, Fu Jen Catholic University, and Chinese Culture University, and got the championships at both scoring-contest and passing-contest. Hou Yu-chuan (Senior, Dept. of Statistics) said that the reasons of their victory lie in that they maintained their high-spirited momentum by shouting during the fight, counteracted opponent’s movement by experienced judgment, and got full support from all the teammates.
Highly competitive teams from eight schools joined the competition in the male division. TKU kendo team passed the trial heat quite free and easy in the passing-contest, but they lost the national champion to the team of Teipei Physical Education College by only one point, and merely got the runner-up with grievance in the end.
