TKU International Student Welcome

【 Hui-ping Liu, Yi-mei Chen, Tamsui Campus Report】According to statistics gathered by the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs there are nearly 2000 overseas students attending Tamkang University. On Feb. 24th a welcoming lunch banquet was held for the overseas students on the 10th floor of the Ching-sheng Building. The menu included pot-stickers, turnip-cake, fish meatballs and other Taiwanese Cuisines. Everyone in attendance had a great time interacting in the warm environment while sharing experiences and ideas. Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, welcomed the students as he introduced the specialties of each of the colleges at TKU. He expressed, “Every year the number of international students at TKU increases. It always makes for a more exciting exchange.

TKU Enlightens High Schoolers for Math Day

On Feb. 21 the Department of Mathematics held the TKU Math Day and many professors of the department lead 45 eager high school students to participate in three activities: Popular Science Lecture, Math Computer Games and Interview Simulation.

New Courses for Professional Finance Skills

【Shi-qing Huang, Tamsui Campus Report】The College of Business and Management recently designed the “Global Finance Discussion” and Finance Market Tendency Discussion” courses for this semester, filling up the class with 250 enthusiastic students. The courses will have lectures given by professionals of the fields of finance, academic-industry project managers and entrepreneurs of various fields.

160 Chinese Language Students Take TKU Tour

The Division of Continuing Education’s Chinese Language Center held the Tamsui Day Tour on Feb. 19. The event lead 4 teams of 160 Chinese language students along Tamsui Campus to see the Palace Lantern Classrooms, College Foursquare and the Library, giving them an up-close look at the unique features of architecture. Director of the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs, Pei-wha Chilee, was invited to introduce the specialties of each department.

Director Hui-huang Hsu Travels to India for Lecture

【Hong-wei Lu, Tamsui Campus Report】The Director of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Hui-huang Hsu, was invited to give a lecture at the IEEE SPIN-2016 Special Guest Lecture Event on Feb. 11-12 at Amity University in India. He was greeted by founder of the University, Ashok K. Chauhan. Hui-huang Hsu gave a speech themed, “Recognizing Human Behavior via Smartphone Sensory Data.”

Student Clubs Learn Big

【Zhao-yu Chen, Dai-yi Chen, Tamsui Campus Report】On Feb. 23rd the Beatbox Student Group invited DJ Afro to pass along digital DJ skills involving mixing, effects and controls to create a wondrous rhythmic harmony. There were 30 people in attendance as they learned professional music skills in order to improve their performance. DJ Afro also shared his experience, describing the music industry in terms of production and live performances. After the exchange, club leader and second-year student of the Department of Resources Management, Tao Xu, expressed, “I hope that one day I can put together music as professionally as DJ Afro to give an even better musical show. Third-year student of the Department of International Business, Xuan-you Ou, shared, “I got a lot of experience from this hands on exchange.”

Healthy Take-out Lecture

【Tamkang Times】Take-out food is delicious, convenient and comes in many different cuisines. Yet, there is a downside to take-out, being that it’s generally unhealthy food. How do we continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle with such easy access to poor choices? On March 11 the Sanitation and Fitness Section invited Nutrition Expert, Wei-ting Dai, to give a lecture in the Gymnasium, room SG317. The event will be discussing the topic, “Using Take-out to Absorb More Vegetables” in an hour long lecture.
