【Reported by Yi-ling Huang, Yu-xun Li, Tamkang Times】The 64th Anniversary of Tamkang University comes with an arrangement of different exciting events and activities. The Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center and the Office of General Affairs are promoting the Youren Yu and Famous Artists Calligraphy Exhibit, taking place on November 4th, also celebrating the 50th anniversary of Youren Yu’s passing.

TKU’s Program to Attract High School Students is a Success

【Reported by Qi-zhuo, Tamkang Times】The data of the 2014 freshmen students has been analyzed, revealing that the Advanced High School Program has successfully attracted 56 more students than the previous year. There has been an increase of students from the northern region of Taiwan by 3.4 percent, yet numbers also indicate that students that chose Tamkang University as their first choice dropped by 32.3 percent.

【Reported by Yi-wan Lu, Ya-xun Ji, Xin-yu Wang, Tamkang Times】The Graduate Institute of the Americas, invited Governor of the Department of Alto Paraná in Paraguay, Justo Zacarias Irun, and four other guests for a visit at TKU on October 27th. Upon their visit, they were interviewed by two second-year students of the Department of International Business Management, Zhu-han Mo and An-ting Xi.

TKU Begins Second year of BS 10012 Certification

【Reported by Shi-qing Huang, Tamkang Times】This year Tamkang University officially its first year the Personal Data Management Examination and received its BS 10012 Certification renewal. This the annual examination was made by British Standards Institution (BSI). The Manager of BSI, Zhi-wei Zhu, and four representatives contacted Taipei, Lanyang and Tamsui campus via video conference to discuss the results of the examination.

The event was hosted by the Director of the Graduate Institute of the Americas, Hsiao-chuan Chen, who invited Ambassador Marcial Bobadilla Guillén from the Embassy of the Republic of Paraguay, Ambassador of the Dominican Embassy in Taiwan, Samuel Castro, Ambassador of the Embassy of Honduras in Taiwan, Misael Vallecillo, Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, and Dean of the College of International Studies, Kao-cheng Wang.

An Informative Lecture on Dissertations

【Reported by Qi-zhuo, Tamkang Times】A lecture was held in the Chueh-sheng Memorial Library pertaining to the “5 Academic Dissertation Courses” on October 21st. Speaker Shiou-iuan Hsu, shared her personal experience with the 60 people in attendance, describing the life of a research student. She also mentioned that she had lots of experience in the area researching literature related to other majors and departments. She reminded everyone that time management is most crucial. She also mentioned that we live in an age of an information explosion due to technological advances, yet only ten percent of the information is accurate. She stated, “An academic database is a researchers best friend.”

【Reported by Ying-tian Fan, Tamkang Times】Tamkang University’s Skating Rink has been a place that has hosted many events including Chinese Folk Song Night, performances from the Beatbox Team and Dance Team, the Street Square event and much more. It even made an appearance in the novels written by Sufen Cai in the 1980’s.Now all of the alumni and students must bid farewell to the area that hosted so many wonderful campus traditions as it looks toward the future in the new Shou Chien International Conference Center.
