A Tribute to Generous Alumnus, Hsu Hang-Chien

The Chair of the Department of Banking and Finance, Li Ming-Chi, recently noted: “The construction of a TKU International Conference Center is absolutely necessary – most Taiwanese universities already have international conference centers. TKU also needs a venue for hosting symposiums and receiving visitors. The fundraising process to build such a center becomes much easier if there are specific targets for the collection of funds.” Dr. Li believes that the development of a university is inextricably connected with the amount of funds it receives from its alumni. The more funds an academic department garners from alumni, he explained, the more scholarships it can offer and the better the facilities and equipment it can provide for its students.

FAATUM Visits Tamkang

The Federation of Alumni Associations of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia (FAATUM), recently came to Taiwan, their visit arranged by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Council. On May 13th, the delegation comprising 65 FAATUM members visited the Tamsui Campus. The group consisted of leading administrative members of the Federation as well as distinguished members of Taiwanese university alumni associations in Malaysia. The Chairman of the Federation, Li Zi-song is a Tamkang alumnus, as are three other members of FAATUM: Lin Jia-nian, Chen De-yi, and Huang Ke-xing.

NSC Scholarship for PhD Candidate Wang Tsai-Hui

Department of Chemistry PhD candidate Wang Tsai-Hui recently received a scholarship grant from the National Science Council, ROC, allowing her to attend Keio University on an eight-week summer vacation research program. This year, a total of 21 students received the same scholarship. Yet Wang is one of only two recipients to be selected from a private university.

An Inspiring Lecture on Moral Values

At 3pm on May 14, a special guest came to TKU to deliver a lecture. Dr. Osamu Nakayama is the President of Reitaku University, one of TKU’s closest sister universities. His talk was on the topic “Enhancing Moral Integrity; Enriching Life”.

The Annual Class Representative Forum

This year’s annual Class Representative Forum was held on May 14 by the Guidance Section, Office of Student Affairs. The Forum is an event that allows TKU students to raise questions, queries, complaints, and objections – a platform that gives voice to students’ concerns. During the Forum, student queries are answered, while complaints and grievances are heard, recorded, and slated for inquiry.
