A Re-evaluation of Tamkang's ISS Status

Every three years, the World Health Organization (WHO) reevaluates schools and universities that it previously classified as "International Safe Schools". It does this through the WHO Collaborating Centre on Community Safety Promotion (CCCSP), which is a body set up specifically for the evaluation of safe schools and communities.

Recognition for a Unique Piece of Research

TKU professor Horng-Jinh Chang and PhD candidate Wang-Kuo Yan (both from the Department of Management Sciences) recently received recognition for their jointly written thesis entitled "When Backpacker Meets Religions Pilgrim House: Interpretation of Oriental Folk Beliefs". Not only was the thesis listed in the well-known international journal, the Arts and Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI), it also received the only "Excellent Thesis Award" conferred by the A&HCI in 2012.

Reaching Consensus on Dual-Degree Programs with QUT

The TKU Center for Cultural and Creative Industries recently reached an agreement with the Creative Industries Faculty, Queensland University of Technology, to establish undergraduate and postgraduate dual degree programs.

TKU's First Partner from the HK / Macau Region

TKU recently signed an academic partnership agreement with Macau University. The historic signing marked TKU's first sister school partnership with an institute of higher education in the HK / Macau area. The partnership will take the form of exchange in research information, university faculty, students, researchers, and academic research, as well as collaboration in holding international conferences and symposiums.

Short Term Study Programs with Cal Poly Pomona

On the afternoon of December 6, 2012, delegates from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, visited the TKU Tamsui Campus. They included Dr. Howard Evams and Dr. Eva Anneli Adams. On arrival, they were greeted by the Dean of the TKU College of Engineering, Dr. Ho Chii-dong, the Chair of the Department of Architecture, Dr. Huang Jui-mao, and Associate Professor Lai Ih-Cheng (also from the Department of Architecture).

A Forum on Contentious International Issues

On December 5 and 6, the TKU College of International Studies held the 2012 Tamkang University Forum at the Ching Sheng International Conference Hall, Tamsui Campus. The topic of discussion in the first session (December 5) was "The Arbitration of International Conflicts". It was hosted by the Dean of the College and TKU Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Wan-chin Tai, and attended by professors from various TKU graduate institutes.

The TKU Sports Tournament for Foreign Students

The Sports Tournament for Foreign Students is an annual event held in December for TKU foreign, overseas Chinese, and Mainland Chinese students. This year, it was held on the 1st and 2nd December at the Student Activity Center. Tournament categories included basketball, badminton, volleyball, as well as novelty races and dodge ball. A staggering 300 plus students took part in this year's tournament, along with staff from the international office including the Dean of International Affairs, Dr. Pei Wha Chi Lee.
