A New TKU Sister School Relationship

On November 16, five delegates from the Bejiing Institute of Technology (BIT), including the President, Dr. Hu Haiyan, arrived at Tamkang University’s Tamsui Campus, to attend the 7th Cross-strait Academic Symposium. During their visit, the President of BIT, Dr. Hu Haiyan, signed an agreement with the President of TKU, Dr. Flora Chia-I Chang, which inaugurated sister school relations between the universities, and took Tamkang’s tally of Mainland Chinese sister universities to thirty. The relationship will involve close academic collaboration and the implementation of student exchange initiatives.

Innovative Distance Education Programs

On Nov. 11, The Dean of the TKU College of Foreign Languages and Literature, Dr. Sung Mei-hwa, led a group of eight TKU teachers to Japan’s Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, where they took part in a jointly held conference on language distance education. The two universities have been conducting online teaching and exchange in Japanese for over two years. The conference aimed to discuss the addition of extra languages – to also include English, Spanish, French, and Chinese – and to decide on a format for future online classes.

Prospects Created by ECFA – A Forum

The Graduate Institute of European Studies will today (Nov. 22) be holding a forum and a workshop. The forum will discuss Taiwanese prospects for strengthened economic and trade ties with the European Union under the ECFA agreement; while the workshop will explore the relationship between politics and commerce in European democracies. During the forum, Ministry of Economic Affairs Economic Counselor, Chun-fang Hsu, will deliver a speech on cross-strait economic collaborative agreements and their positive effect on industry. There will also be a round table discussion featuring experts and scholars from industry and academia.

Korean Student Wins TKU Chinese Speaking Competition

Prizes on Offer at Alumni Exhibition

The alumni exhibition “It Was You All Along” is a display of several hundred books and art pieces published and designed by TKU alumni. To encourage student participation in the exhibition, a question and answer contest will be held on the 24th of November. The prizes on offer are extensive. They include a Hitachi 320G removable hard disk; a 4GB MP3; a Microsoft wireless mouse; and two SanDisk 4G USB devices.

Moodle Classes

To provide even more TKU faculty a first-hand experience at operating Moodle (a multi-functional teaching platform), TKU is now offering small-sized Moodle orientation classes. Faculty may register for the classes with the TKU Distance Education Development Section, and must do so in groups of five.
