POET LAUREATE, LO FU, GAVE SPEECH AT HIS ALMA MATER

Lo Fu (Lo-fu Mo), a contemporary poet laureate, was invited by Founder Clement Chang to give speech and displayed calligraphy on the spot at Tamsui campus on December 19. 80 year-old Lo Fu, was graduated from the Department of English at 1973. His daughter, Fei Mo, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law, are all TKU alumni. Lo Fu was one of the winners of the 21st Tamkang Elite Award. Presently, he resides in Vancouver, Canada. Winning various poetic creation awards, including China Times Literature Recommendation Award, Chung Shan Literature and Arts Creation Award, and National Literature and Arts Award, he was a distinguished contemporary poet, well-known among Chinese-speaking countries.

DEPT. OF INFORMATION MANAGEMENT WON THREE BIG PRIZES IN THE NATIONAL INFORMATION CONTESTS

Under the guidance of Associate Professor Liaw Heh-tyan, students of Dept. of Information Management stood out from 181 teams from 59 universities in “The 12th National Collegiate Competition of Innovative Information Service and Management,” co-held by Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Chinese Society of Information Management, and won the first prize in the Section of Information Application and fourth place in the Section of Information Techniques. This is the fourth time that Dept. of Information Management has good performance in the contest.

FRUITFUL HARVESTS OF CCDL PROJECT

A project of Cross-Cultural Distance Learning (CCDL), co-hosted by Tamkang and a Japanese sister university, Waseda University, recently displayed its harvests in Japan. On behalf of Tamkang, Dr. Yi-ti Lin, Assistant Professor of Dept. of English, was invited to join in the conference on distance learning. During the process of the conference, Dr. Lin reported on the result of cooperation in “English Oral Expression,” and shared her experience with representatives of foreign universities. Dr. Lin expressed that Waseda University hopes to expand cooperation by adding five more distance learning programs to become ten.

TAMKANG FORUM ON RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EU AND TAIWAN

College of International Studies invited Dr. Ming-chiou Chen, researcher of the Hoover Institution of Stanford University, and Dr. Masako Ikegami, Director of the Center for Pacific Asia Studies, Stockholm University, to attend a “Tamkang Forum,” hosted by Vice President of International Affairs, at T306 on December 18 and 19.

President of Free Universe Education Foundation, Tang Feng-jeng visited and evaluated the campus of TKU for the “Check on Facilities for The Disables in Colleges,” held by Ministry of Education, on December 11. After the check and interview, President Tang and inspector Liu Shin-rong held meeting with Dr. Lo Yunn-chyr, Dean of General Affairs, Dr. Keh Huan-chao, Dean of Academic Affairs, Liang Ching-hua, member of the Construction and Repair Section, and Dr. Jeng Hoang-ell, Associate Professor of Dept. of Architecture, who participated in designing the facilities for the disables. The percentage of satisfaction in this check is above 90％.

STUDENTS OF DEPT. OF STATISTICS WON THREE GOLDS AT COLLEGIATE STATISTICS TOURNAMENT

The 28th Annual Invitational collegiate Statistics Tournament was held by Statistics Department Association on December 15th and 16th at Tamsui Campus. Students of Department of Statistics got the best award for team spirit among the twelve colleges and struck gold on women’s basketball division, men’s basketball division, and women’s e volleyball division. Besides, men’s volleyball division won the third place, and Liou Bang-shiu, a graduate student of Department of Statistics won the second place in billiards team.

“The 3rd Exhibition of Programs for Promoting and Assisting the Development of Student Clubs in Elementary and Junior High Schools” was held on Dec.14 at the Ching-sheng International Conference Hall, by Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section. Dr. Kao Po-yuan, Vice President for Administrative Affairs said “TKU encourages the students’ zeal in assisting clubs activities in elementary and junior high schools and hope such activities can last afterwards.”

7 STUDENTS WERE ELECTED IN THE COUNCIL MEMBERS ELECTION: WITH THE LEAST VOTING RATE

The 20th session of the council members election counted the vote at 7 o’clock on last Thursday evening (December 20). There were only 839 ballot papers collected from both Tamsui and Lanyang campuses. 7 council members were elected, with 2 members from College of Management, 1 from College of Engineering, 1 from the College of Business, 2 from College of College of Foreign Languages and Literatures, and 1 from College of Entrepreneurial Development.

In order to let students experience the Japanese culture, Department of Japanese held various activities, including “mochi-stirring,” Japanese traditional Apo dance in the field in front of Foreign Languages and literatures Building on December 14th. The passionate audiences and red bean soup sold at the ground fill in a warm air into the chilly winter.

GREENING COMMUNITIES COMPETITION: STUDENTS OF DEPT. OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE AND MANAGEMENT AND DEPT. OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING WERE AWARDED

Langyang Campus, TKU and Loudong Forest District Office of Forestry Bureau co-held the competition for “2007 Greening Local Communities” on Dec. 9 and Dec. 15, 2007. Sophomores of Department of Landscape Architecture and Management were awarded for excellence and creativity with the works “Returning to Innocence,” and “Geometric Hsuehshan Tunnel.” Sophomores of Department of Software Engineering were also awarded for creativity with their work, “Garden in the Dream.” In addition to competition, the activity also include lectures, such as “The Role of Tamkang Lanyang Campus in the Community” by Dr. In-ho Lin, Associate Professor of Department of Software Engineering, and “Community Forestry” by Hung-jung Lin, Director-general of Loudong Forest District Office, at CL328. The contest took place on Dec. 15, with ten groups joining in the competition, including seven excellent community groups outside the school and three groups of Tamknag students. Four awards are for high distinction, three awards for excellence, and three awards for creativity.
