Department of International Trade Will Initiate An English Only Program as of School Year 2003

Following the footsteps of many departments which have already conducted classes in English, the Department of International Trade will initiate an English program as of school year 2003. First, they will re-group the existent 3 classes into 2 sections. Section A with 2 classes will keep the Chinese medium intact. Section B will use English as the sole means of teaching.

TKU Was Touted by Government Industry Bureau for Her Maneuverability in Electronics Service

TKU’s Matriculation of Freshmen by Way of Application Suffered some loss in Student Numbers

The deadline for TKU freshmen matriculation already expired on Dec. 10. According to Office of Academic Affairs, there are 9043 high school graduates who have registered for matriculation. Compared to last year’s figure, TKU suffers a loss of 1,000 students. It’s estimated the admission number will be 681 people.

TKU Will Set Up a New Center for Higher-Education Studies/Research

Starting August 2002, TKU will set up a brand-new Center for Higher Education Research/Studies. It is understood that it will be the first organization Taiwan has ever seen, because its mission is unique in that only theories as well as practices pertaining to higher education will be the major concern.

A Delegation from Nankai University Tianjin Visited TKU last Wednesday (Dec. 26)

A delegation led by Dr. Chen Yung-chuan, V.P., Nan Kai University and Prof. Hsieh Chao-hsiung, Foreign Affairs Advisor, visited Tamkang U. in the afternoon on Dec. 26 (last Wednesday). Pres. Chang Horng-jinh had given a dinner party in Kuan Hai Tan in honor of our mainland visitors. Dr. Feng Chao-kang, V.P. for Academic Affairs, was also at the scene. Another V.P. of Nan Kai U., Dr. Chiang Chin-chu, had already visited us in past June. This should be their second visit to TKU.

Students from College of International Studies Cut out a Figure in a Nation-wide Examination

In a nation-wide Examination held by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ROC, for Foreign Service/Consulate Personnel, a number of graduate students from College of International Studies cut out a figure by passing the Examination with a wide margin.

Miss Ku Ya-huei Won the Most Distinguished Prize in a Speech Contest Held

Miss Ku Ya-huei, a student from Practical Japanese Department, College of Technology, TKU, is now an exchange student in Asia University, Japan. On Dec. 12, she won the Most Distinguished Prize in the 23rd Speech Contest held in Asia University.

Tamkang Experimental Theatre Put up 4 Oneacters on Stage

A limelight casts upon a wayward youth who has lost both parents. Amidst the flurry of snowflakes, there come floating in the freezing air peals of happy bells announcing the advent of a new year. This is one of the touching scenes in a short oneacter, “Relaying Station” presented by the Experimental Theatre Club, TKU.
