According to the statistics released by Office of Alumni/ae Services & Resources Development , the results of R.O.C.’s across the country December 1 elections show that TKU is a big winner because out of the 38 contenders who were formerly TKU students, more than half have become law-makers (so-called legislators) of the new Parliament (the Legislative Yuan).

A Symposium on the New Prospect and New Development of the Relationship between China and Taiwan is scheduled to be held between December 13 & 14, at Shanghai Guest House in PRC. It will be jointly sponsored by College of International Studies, TKU, Institute of Taiwan Studies, Shanghai and Institute of International Studies, Shanghai. The TKU delegation consisting of 17members will be led by Dr. Wei Wou, Dean, College of International Studies. Dr. Andy Chang W.Y., Director, Graduate Institute of China Studies and Prof. Lu Yi-cheng, Tamkang Chair Professor, are guests among the list. Also invited are legislator Mr. Liu Jui-sheng, former cabinet officials Mr. Chiu Chin-yi and General Yu Chuan-tao. Dr. Shih Chien-sheng, former Dean, College of Law, NTU, etc.

The Student Course Evaluation System Will Undergo Some Mild Change Next Semester

The student course evaluation system which has been practiced by TKU for 30 years will undergo some change in the future. Following is the list of possible revisions: first, a name change. It will be called, “Teaching and Learning Feedback Poll from the Students”. Second, some of the questions will be knocked out, some added on. Third, no survey will be considered valid unless it has been polled and authenticated by more than 50% of the students attending the class. Then it will be submitted to higher echelon for correction action. And the last change will be: the survey will be done only once in the whole school year, in the second half, that is.

Tamkang U. Will Host an International Conference on the Coalition Government in Europe

Under the auspices of the Graduate Institute of European Studies, TKU, Institute of International Relations, National Chengchi University and International Institute for Democracy, France, an International Conference on Coalition Government in Europe will be held at Room 403, 4F, Howard Plaza Hotel, Taipei. Dr. Clement C.P. Chang, Founder of TKU, Dr. Enie Wessedijk, Executive Secretary, International Institute for Democracy and Dr. Ho Szu-yin, Director of IIR, NCCU will each give an address at the opening ceremony.

TKU Will Hold a Conference on the Pedagogy of Teaching a Second Foreign Language

A conference on the Pedagogy of Teaching a Second Foreign Language Other than English will be held at 9:00 A.M. Dec. 15 (Sat.) at the International Conference Room (3F) and the Chung Cheng Conference Room (2F), Ching-sheng Memorial Hall respectively. The College of Foreign Languages & Literatures will play host to this conference and many invitations have already been extended to scholars of other universities who are presently engaged in teaching the second foreign language in their own departments.

Tamkang U. Won Second Place in Inter-collegiate Cyberspace Page Contest

In a cross- country cyberspace page design contest featuring Office of Student Affairs in universities, colleges and junior colleges, etc., Tamkang U. has beaten all the contestants but one, and has landed at the second place, only next to National Chung Cheng University.

A Revolutionary Move Was Taken in TKU Student Self-Rule

In a meeting held on November 28 for TKU Student Affairs, a decision was made which has changed the relationship between 3 student offices ever since. This revolutionary move, according to some student leaders, is a big stride toward democracy in the history of TKU student autonomous government.

Some of the TKU Student Clubs Have Been Re-grouped to Meet Up-dating Demand

As there are as many as 248 student organizations, to classify them has long since become a headache to officials of Extra-curricular Activities Guidance Section. A meeting called by the same office a couple of days ago has passed a resolution to re-group the original 8 categories into 5, including TKU Student Association, TKU Student Senate, TKU Preparatory Committee for Oncoming Graduation, TKU Department Association and TKU Student Clubs/Associations.

Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center Will Hold an Exhibition in Australia on December 18

The Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center, together with Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, will jointly hold an Exhibition of their holdings of objet d’art (and there are 34 items) in the Curtin University of Technology, Australia on December 18. The name of the exhibition is called “In Remembrance of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s 136th Birthday: An Exhibition of Calligraphy and Paintings by Taiwan Artists.
