On Pres. Chang Horng-jinh Has Envisioned Tamkang U.’s Future in Three Directions

In TKU’s Second Phase Pedagogical/Administrative Innovation Conference held on November 16, Pres. Chang Horng-jinh told the attending faculty as well as staff members that from now on, the development project will be: The Tamkang campus in Tamsui be geared at becoming a research-oriented university, whereas the Lanyang campus now under construction, a British type, proctor-oriented university, and the TKU Taipei campus, a technology, vocation and lifelong-career-oriented university. As a matter of fact, these were the highlights contained in Pres. Chang’s special report “A Review of TKU’s First Curve And the Second Curve Planning of the Three Campuses of TKU”.

The Construction of TKU Lanyang Campus Suspended Pending Further Notice

A suspension of the TKU Ilang campus has become necessary due to the impact of torrential rains of Typhoon Nari and Typhoon Xangsane, and the revised construction blue-print was drawn up last week. It will be forwarded to Ilan hsien government to facilitate the execution of the plan at any given time in the future.

In a meeting for creating a more congenial campus for the disabled/handicapped students held last Thursday, Dr. Flora C.I. Chang, V. P. for Administrative Affairs, said, “We have spent almost ten million N.T. dollars on creating a more or less unhampered campus for those less fortunate students, much is yet to be desired on our efforts.”

Two Robots Designed by Electrical Engineering Professor and Students Won National Awards

TKU’s Department of Electrical Engineering has become two-time winners in November. Congratulations! First,. They won a Grand Prize and a Second Prize in the “2001 National Soccer Robot Competition” sponsored by 3C Industry Application Teaching Resource Center, Ministry of Education. Second, in “the Competition of Microcomputer Application System Design and Implementation”, also sponsored by M.O.E., the “Unmanned and Voice-Controllable Mobile Robot Design and Implementation System” has caught the eye of the judges and received an excellent rating. The graduate students involved in the project went to National Taiwan University of Science and Technology to receive a cash prize for NT$40,000.00 and a citation.
