Smart Innovation Micro-Program to Cultivate Cross-Disciplinary Information Talents

To cultivate interdisciplinary talents with potential for intellectual innovation, equip students in non-information software engineering fields with backgrounds in artificial intelligence, digital technology, and software development, allowing them to possess problem-solving abilities in information technology, the university has received funding from the Ministry of Education’s “Smart Innovation Key Talent Project” to become a demonstration school for cultivating interdisciplinary talents with potential for intellectual innovation. Starting this semester, 2 micro-programs, “Multimedia and Human-Computer Interaction Technology and Applications” and “Commercial English Industry”, will be offered, taking the first step in talent cultivation.

President Keh Presides over the Fundraising Committee, Tamkang University Alumni Foundation in the United States Established

The 34th fundraising committee meeting of TKU was held on January 12 at Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center, with synchronous video connection to the Taipei Campus. The meeting was presided over by President Huan-Chao Keh and awarded the 2022 academic year fundraising colored glaze thank-you medal, including 61 faculty members and staff who received awards for raising more than NT$1 million during the 2021 academic year, including Chairperson Flora Chia-I Chang. The meeting also set a fundraising target of NT$120 million for the 2023 academic year, and the newly established “Tamkang University Alumni Foundation in the United States” set a fundraising target of USD $20,000.

Teacher Research Reward Exceeds NT$20 Million

The Office of Human Resources recently announced the list of recipients for the 2022 academic year’s Full-time Faculty Research Incentive Awards, including academic journal articles, academic books, citations of academic journal articles or academic books, creative exhibitions, and sports competitions, with a total amount of NT$ 20,027,256, more than the subsidy of NT$17,033,040 last year, indicating that the academic research results of our full-time teachers were quite fruitful last year and reflecting the spirit of the fifth wave of “Transcending”.

The Impressive Initial Results of the Smart E-Pen with Eye-catching Ethereal Strokes

The “Smart e-Brush” research and development team, co-hosted by Ben-Hang Chang, Director of Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center, and Dr. Tzung-Hang Lee, Dean of the College of Engineering and the AI Innovation College, is carrying out the AB dual-track transformation plan with the support of Chin-Tsai Chen, Chairman of WIN Semiconductor Corp. and President of the Tamkang University Worldwide Alumni Association. On January 8, at the Spring Festival Couplet calligraphy event held in the lobby of the Grand Hotel, the preliminary research and development result “Ethereal Calligraphy”(空靈揮毫) was presented in public for the first time. It was demonstrated by waving hands in the air, and through technology, the invisible calligraphy was converted into written characters, which received considerable attention from Deputy Minister of Interior Ching-Chun Hua, the Chairperson of TKU, Dr. Flora Chia-I Chang, Chin-Tsai Chen, numerous calligraphy masters and guests. This groundbreaking technology is expected to open the way for e-brush calligraphy to enter the metaverse.

NSTC’s Publication Evaluation Subsidy, TKU’s Journal Continues to Achieve Good Results

Research Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, NSTC recently announced the results of the 2022 Taiwan Humanities and Social Sciences Journal Evaluation and Core Journal Inclusion. The Journal of Educational Media & Library Sciences, jointly compiled by the Department of Information and Library Science, Chueh Sheng Memorial Library and Publishing Center of TKU, continued to be ranked first in the Education category (including sports and library and information fields) and was included in the “Taiwan Social Science Citation Index” (TSSCI). The “Tamkang Journal of Sports Science,” (《淡江體育學刊》), which is published with self-raised funds by the Office of Physical Education, also continued to be ranked third.
